About the Public Utilities Commission
The Clay Center Public Utilities Commission consists of a three man board for approval by the City Council. The commission meets the Monday before a City Council meeting (first and third Mondays) at 11:30 AM in the Utility Superintendent’s office.
In November 2004, the Public Utilities Commission voted to become members of the Kansas Power Pool. Clay Center is one of the founding members of the Power Pool, which was created to allow multiple Kansas energy providers to pool their resources to produce and purchase electricity more cost-effectively.
The Power Pool combined all member's resources together. It puts load generation and existing contracts under one entity. The Power Pool makes buying larger portions of energy cost effective for members.
